self-assessment.
Please rate yourself on the following rubric. Underline or highlight the exact phrases that apply to you. You will likely find that for some criteria, you have answers in multiple columns. Honesty is both expected and appreciated.
*NOTE* To receive credit under the *OR* option of the rubric, student must write 2-3 sentences demonstrating that they meet each of the criteria specified on the rubric. Please insert these as comments. i.e. highlight the *OR* text, go to Insert -> Comments and type your justifications there. Make sure you hit the Comment button to save your comment.

Initiates routines and tasks on their own without direct request. | Follows instructions willingly and initiates most of the time. Demonstrates persistence in carrying out tasks/routines. | Shows some initiative but usually has to be asked. Completes assigned tasks courteously and cheerfully but may need direction. (*OR* student ability to take responsibility significantly improved over the course of the semester.) | Needs constant supervision and/or direction. Demonstrates above average competence in completing routines/tasks. Completes work in a timely manner. | Works to master all of the routines/tasks in the course. Asks questions about unfamiliar tasks. Usually completes work in a timely manner. Shows competency in skill development. (*OR* student began semester poorly and improved significantly throughout the course.) | The majority of tasks are generally incomplete or not acceptable. Tasks are done well and go above and beyond the expressed expectations. | Regular attendance and punctuality. All absences and/or lates are excused. Tasks are done well. | Regular attendance and punctuality with only a few absences (less than three unexcused absences/lates per term.) Tasks are generally completed satisfactorily. (*OR* student started off with poor attendance and/or punctuality and then significantly improved.) | Many absences (more than three unexcused absences per term) or late often (late more than three times per term). Tasks are generally incomplete or not followed through or done poorly. | Does not generally attend and/or submits no work. |
Reflection
Self Awareness Honesty and thoroughness on self-evaluations (including this one) | Self-evaluations completed with a great deal of care and insight. Student demonstrates a clear understanding of their own strengths and takes pride in their successes. Student is aware of their challenges and consciously looks for ways to use their strengths to meet those challenges. | Self-evaluations completed with care. Student understands that they have both strengths and challenges. Student actively seeks guidance when they are unsure of how to develop their strengths or meet their challenges. Self-awareness is growing. Student answers all questions thoroughly. | Self-evaluations completed with marginal effort, i.e. answers lack the requisite level of detail. May resist asking for help from the teacher or peers. May assert that they have neither strengths nor challenges and demonstrate a lack of openness to constructive criticism. (*OR* Student began semester completely resistant to self-evaluations and now accepts them as a useful practice.) | Student has paid very little attention to self-evaluations. May use phrases like “No,” “Nothing,” “I don’t know,” as a way of resisting growth of self-awareness and metacognition--i.e. unable to “think about how they think.” | Student has failed to complete a single self-evaluation. |
Please answer the following questions honestly as there are no right or wrong answers; however, you do need to have an adequate level of detail. If a question is worth 3 marks, make 3 unique points, if it is worth 5 marks, make 5 unique points. Answers of “no” “nothing” “idk” etc. will receive no credit. No marks will be deducted for spelling, grammar, etc. As long as I can understand what you’re saying, you’ll receive credit.
1. (2 Marks)
I could help ensure a pleasant and safe environment in the classroom (or any other shared space) in the future by making sure others around me are on task and not in conflict with anybody else. I can stay in contact with the teacher to ensure safety and a good learning environment for other students who may need help (as I did... a LOT). I must make sure that others around me feel safe and are on task... most of the time. :)
2. (3 Marks) What strategies do you need to employ to help yourself be more engaged in the class/get more work done and/or be more satisfied with the quality of work you produce?
I need to ask more questions to the teacher, in class, so that I can make sure that what work I am producing is good quality work that does not stray from the outlines. I need to listen and keep a more keen eye on strategies that others are using, and ask others how to incorporate these other ideas into my own work to make it better quality (as theirs are usually better than mine). To get more work done and get more engaged, I need to find better ways to produce my own work. This was a key mishap in my work - maybe it was that I don’t have photoshop, or a high-res camera at home, but I found that making and producing my own work was HARD.
3. (3 Marks)
What strengths or successes in your work stand out?
Layers and Masques were my toughest adversary - and became my strengths as I learned how to use them to my advantage. I was finding it difficult to make a basic collage and cutting out parts of pictures really started getting to me. My best friend in Photoshop is the quick select/magic wand tool. I need to understand more about it. Success came to me when I finally got the hang of masks. Now I need to start understanding the rest of the tools...
4. (3 Marks)
What topics are you most interested in refining? Make a plan that indicates what to do, how to get support, and where to go to get that support.
I would like to learn more about the different ways to “make my own” pictures, or how to make pictures my own. I want to learn how to use the different tools separately, and then add what i know about art to these concepts.
My plan is to...
1. Ask the teacher and the Experienced about the different tools
2. Learn these and expand on these
3. Start learning new concepts, on my own, already knowing what I know
4. Use this knowledge after Secondary is over!
5. (4 marks)
What are you proud of in terms of your time spent in Digital Imagery?
I am most proud of what I’ve accomplished here in this term. I gained a brief understanding of photoshop, layers, masques, and other tools. I am proud of myself; in developing new working habits (such as depending on others, and the teacher, for help and the answers to my questions.) I am proud of how I’m starting to understand myself, and my limitations, through self-evaluations, such as this. I am proud of the work and my blog. I can’t thank my friends and the teacher here in this class enough.
6. (5 Marks)
The most significant thing I learned this semester in Digital Imagery is... how to develop pictures and montages through hard work, layers, masques, and different tools I can use to merge pictures together. I gained a “beginners” concept of Photoshop, and I hope to learn more. All I use right now is the magic wand or quick selection tool, and I kind of fall back on those or the other paint tools. Photoshop is like a labyrinth, and I have to explore all the other nooks and crannies (like the sharpening tool, brushes, hues, etc. etc.) I don’t know the limitations, and therefore I can’t work in or outside the box. I’m sure photoshop techniques will come to me, and I will learn, but the most significant thing I gained from this semester is a gained experience of photoshop... even if I still am a beginner.
